French Wines

France has the second largest area of vineyards in the world producing upwards of seven billion bottles of wine per year. Recently the French Wine governing bodies have introduced new rules for labeling and presentation, aimed at improving quality and communication with consumers. The new Vin de France segmentation means that blends are now possible between different producer regions, ensuring that wine makers can source the best quality grapes at the best possible price! The Appellation Contrôlée segmentation dictates that wines must be 100% made from the grapes of a given defined area and the quality is entirely governed by the Terroir (specific wine producing soil) and the people working it. The term Appellation Contrôlée (AC) will eventually change to Appellation Protégée (AP).
